Xomo Delivers Innovative iPhone App for the
2009 Vancouver International Jazz Festival
July 3, 2009 - Vancouver-based technology company Xomo (pronounced 'zoe moe') has delivered a location-aware iPhone application that makes sure visitors won't miss a beat at this week's TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
Downloadable for free from the App Store on iTunes (link), the official VanJazzFest app provides an up-to-date schedule, artist profiles, details on more than 400 performances and maps to the 40+ venues at the Festival. It also provides links through to iTunes so you can sample an artist's music and, using the iPhone GPS, it highlights 'What's On' close to you.
Xomo is also helping the Festival minimize its environmental footprint. This year, the Festival reduced its 96-page printed program guide to a single-sheet, fold-out brochure, and is using the Mobile Event Guide to augment this.
Adding a social element, the Xomo Experience Team is on-site at many of the Festival events using their iPhones to stream pictures and stories in real-time to the app and the Jazz Festival website www.coastaljazz.ca.
Xomo's mobile app is garnering plenty of enthusiastic response from people using it at the Jazz Festival, says Kira Orr, Marketing & Development Director for Coastal Jazz & Blues Society.
"Both aspects of this mobile application, the Event Guide itself as well as the enriched web content generated by the Xomo Experience Team, offer powerful means to increase attendance at our free and ticketed concerts, and enhances the value of the Festival's sponsorship offerings," Orr says.
Xomo co-founder Jeff Sinclair says the mobile app is helping people make the most of their Jazz Festival experience, whether they are in Vancouver or not.
"Jazz fans around the world have been downloading the app and checking out our real-time stories to get a taste of the excitement of being at this event," Sinclair says.
